Days 4, 5, 6 Happy New Year!

Bayeux has no internet. Many other cute things but not that; I've had to come to Caen to sign on. Its 20 mins and 11 euro return away, a William the Conq town. You have already hit the new year but its only 3.30 in the arvo here. I forgot the cable so no photos prob till I get back to Paris tomorrow.
The tapestry was actually mind blowing in real life, incredibly rich in detail and exquisite workmanship. You feel its full of information in the small pictures that we have lost perhaps old scandals and jokes. The town is all half timbered and stone houses, very picture postcard and the cathedral is magnif. The local food speciality is tripe sausages which I have not tried, I ordered them at a Normandy restaurant but they were out, honest. Bayeux is the town with the highest number of cake shops per head of population in France.
I also went to the war cemetery in town, it really doesn't take much room to bury 4,000 dead, far too many of whom were little more than kids. I haven't done any war tours however.
Caen is largely modern but does have a nice castle and quite a few churches including Queen Matilda's own church which is white and light and very clean. St Expedit is featured there and I lit a candle for the children as it looked like he was the saint of the young, I think.
