Strange

Today I found myself looking up travel sites, a tour of Roman North Africa and apartments in Rome. Strange.

Home Again, Home Again.

Thank god to be back in a country where they understand the little things that make life easy. Somewhere it is not a struggle to find appropriate shelter, nourishment and direction, a struggle that reminds you why our earliest ancestors came in from the cold and invented civilization. Home in fact. So for a while one can bask in 100% humidity and all the amenities of Australian life until it becomes just a little too easy, knowing where to acquire what you want, understanding directions from complete strangers, being able to read sreet signs, menus, bus timetables, Until the lure of places unknown and sites unseen, the sheer discomfit of being outside, sings its siren song and the chance to leave all the everyday, the normal, grownup and responsible world becomes a call too loud to ignore and too tempting to dismiss. Until next trip.

Fun London

Of course London is not all high minded entertainment.

Can't resist the BM

All those lovely things!

Snowy London

Although pretty, its pretty much an obstacle that One could live without.

Nimes still

They also have a temple to Augustus that they are in the middle of cleaning.

Nimes

Some very impressive and interesting stuff in Nimes. In the Garden of the Fountain, which reminded me of the Boboli Gardens, there were the remains of a tower and Augusteum. The Augusteum had been built on the site of a spring to Nemoz the local water god. The city was the home of legionary veterans who had fought in Africa against Kleopatra hence the cities symbol of the palm and croc.

Monday to London

Mad scrambling day trying to get to London. The flight from Nimes was cancelled and no alternative offered until Wednesday, rather too late. So a mad dash ensued, taxi to Nimes train station, caught the tvg with 3 mins to spare, 3 hours to Paris then a luckily delayed Eurostar enabled a 3 hour trip to London. Most of the underground was cancelled but the line to Goodge St was still open. The most hair raising part of the trip was the walk to the hotel, slithering over icy and deserted streets. More snow is forecast but I hope to be gone by then.

Nimes

A brief wet visit which I hope to add the pictures for soon. Certainly very impressive Roman bits but too short a visit to find the right kind of internet place.
